About Us

About us...
In my former life, I was a Program Coordinator for at-risk children and families.
I am also crazy for sewing (have owned two small sewing businesses), crochet, crafting, baking, building, painting, gardening, and all things old and well-loved!

I have been married for 20+ yrs to an amazing man who has a great love of life and is very passionate about many things. He is an Artisan Blacksmith, Wood Turner, builder, and creator extraordinaire, and Software Engineer.

We moved to the country to restore a century home together. We're living and loving life and starting to think of having children when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 30. Chemotherapy, surgery, survival! I was given a slim to none chance of conceiving given the harsh chemo but… we were blessed with our beautiful baby boy, and again with our sweet baby girl!

I made the decision to stay at home with our children.

MMO was created with the help of my husband to document our children, and our journey in home learning/unschooling while making Montessori ours. Montessori was such a natural fantastic fit for our family. I write and share photos about some of our adventures and passions, as well as links and great resources that we come across along the way.

Our greatest family challenge has been finding our way through Ava's diagnosis with Urea Cycle Disorder.

Our life is filled with challenges as are most, but I have chosen to write about the beauty of this experience, and the incredible way it is changing and shaping our lives every day.

We spend a great deal of time researching all of the materials and resources that we use and believe in. It is extremely important to us that our children have quality materials tailored to suit their specific needs and interests. Our home learning/unschooling life has taken us all in some amazing directions, as our path continues to unfold.

I am not as active in posting about our children as they have grown, and their interests are their own. When they give permission I shall create posts that include them. They are passionate about real-world experiences, and we are exploring together as a family. We will continue to spread the word about great products, books, and printables because it is so valuable for many who visit with us here.
As requested I will continue to develop materials and products for our shops as I love the creative process. There are so many things that our children loved that I would still love to share.

We are also grateful that the Montessori community, for the most part, is supportive of homeschoolers, and have made a great effort to ensure Montessori materials, manuals, and video instruction are completely accessible to benefit families and children globally.

We are deeply grateful to those who have passed along, shared, and created valuable resources.

Making Montessori Ours has been a wonderful journey that has grown with our family.
You could certainly call us "The Unschooling Montessorians"💕

If you are interested in checking out what we are up to daily as a family, you can find us on Facebook and Instagram and of course on Pinterest!

  1. Hello! Do you have a blog archive? I can't find it anywhere. I also have a big boy and a little little girl and i would like to see how you started with them when they were smaller. My boy is 2.5 years old and I don't know where to start, he doesn't seem interested in anything but outdoor playing for the moment :) Thank you!

    1. Thank you for writing and you are right!!! I could not find our archive? It is up now, and I will post soon about all of the types of things we did when the kids were young. Honestly then... for your son that appears to be the perfect place to start :)

  2. :) Thank you... yes, maybe you are right, I want to teach him too much too early about this wonderful world we are living in but I think he enjoys it very much in his own perfect way already. Thank you again.
