Online Art Classes for Families, Playing With Art At Home

Arts & crafts are an ongoing daily event in our house 💓 Mr Xander has become very interested in the mechanics of drawing, and I thought I would share a moment from a fantastic online art class that I found for the kids!

Experimenting with lines

They have  fairly short videos that talk about and fully demonstrate elements and concepts of drawing including, form, line, shape, space, exploring light sources, observation/drawing what you see, and composition. You will explore graphite/pencil, oil and chalk pastels, coloured pencils and ink (in the drawing segments). Visit the site to get a full description.

This was a lot of fun. We had a great laugh working together creating blind contour drawings 😃

This is such a great exercise that is so powerful in teaching the art of observation. You do your best to trace the object with your eyes while moving your pencil at the same rate. Your eyes are on the object 100% of the time, trying not to lift your pencil from the paper. This is really tough at first!

Parts of this site are free. I did decide to purchase a membership because it was a very good price, and it had so much to offer!

  2. I will have to check out some of the free lessons and possibly pay the membership as well! You are right - the price isn't bad, and I have one particular child who LOVES to draw and yet seriously needs some technique :) Thanks for sharing!
