Plant Root Study, Montessori Botany At Home

We are taking a closer look at root systems and having some fun with those that are edible 😃

The next few pictures are for a booklet I found here for free as well. Since we were studying roots, I decided to print and put this book together.  This book talks about Underground Storage Systems like tubers, corms, bulbs, rhizomes.

I found the edible forms of each storage system for Xander to examine like garlic, potato, ginger and onion.

I cut the pictures from the booklet and made a set of cards.

I also made cards to show the plant form and type of root system, so that he
 could visualize them all together.
I made a simple cover from card stock and stapled it together.

Here is where the fun begins! Xander thoroughly checked out, cut up, smelled, felt and tasted everything! He loved this so much 💕

He also grated ginger lots of ginger!

This is the drawing I did on the computer of a roots and the parts of a root 3 part cards I found here for FREE!! They also have the booklet that the kids can label, and put together for free as well.

Checking out root systems in the garden. We spent a great deal of time transplanting lilies and other flower and plants. This is a perfect opportunity to explore their roots.

We also had some fun with our Root Viewer Kit!
