Early Language Activities, Language At Home

I love this Melissa & Doug word puzzle set. The letters came mixed in the box, so I bought a parts container to make them function more like a moveable alphabet.

Ava loves this set. We trace the letters with our finger, and say the sound much like you would do with your sandpaper letters.  Our letter sound boxes are soon to follow. She is also using our DIY sound bottles to help her with subtle variations in sound recognition, as part of her sensory work.

She is now referring to many missing letters by their sound. We also love this little set of alphabet books below. There is a book for every letter with both upper and lower case letters on the front, and basic images inside.  We keep a set of magnetic letters close by, and match them to the letters on the cover. The cover letters are also a great size for finger tracing.

Good alphabet fun!
