Sight Words, Montessori Language At Home

Sight word lists are introduced after Pink Series materials. There are a series of Lilac Reading lists that can be created from the Dolch high frequency word lists available online. Dolch lists the most commonly used sight wordsDr. Edward William Dolch developed the list in the 1930s and 40s.
Our language manual provides the lists that they recommend. After Pink series the highest frequency list of 25 words are introduced, and then the following lists are worked during Blue Series.

I thought I would share a few of our sight word card collections that we created at home.
This set is for the kitchen. Xander sounds or reads the word, and then we look for as many words that we can find "within" the word. Sounds simple, and it is but he loves it.
It's like finding secret words. 💕 This is a wonderful opportunity to make sight words fun, and it really helps with recall and recognition.

Xander is very relaxed and focused at bedtime, and we have played some fantastic language games during that time. I know this isn't for everyone, but it has worked really well for us.

Below is a little sight work box that he keeps beside his bed.

We've had a lot of fun personalizing materials for Xander 💓
